41 clinical trial registries, one table
Registration obligations are national, and trials rarely stay in one country. Start from the registries your sites sit in, then open each snapshot for how that registry works.

Clinical trial registries — frequently asked questions
What is a WHO Primary Registry?
A registry in the WHO Registry Network that meets WHO’s criteria for content, quality and validity, accessibility, unique identification, technical capacity and administration. Primary Registries also meet the requirements of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). WHO lists them on its International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) site.
Is ClinicalTrials.gov a WHO Primary Registry?
No. ClinicalTrials.gov is not on WHO’s list of Primary Registries; it feeds WHO’s ICTRP search portal as a data provider. The ICMJE accepts registration in ClinicalTrials.gov or in any WHO Primary Registry.
Which registries does the matrix cover?
The 41 registries and databases in TrialAssure’s Registry Snapshot series: 16 WHO Primary Registries, national registries run by regulators such as Health Canada and Italy’s AIFA, and specialist databases such as the NCI Clinical Trials Reporting Program and EUDAMED.
How current is it?
The WHO Primary Registry column was checked against WHO’s list on September 23, 2026. Each registry’s snapshot, and the notes in the spreadsheet, date from 2019. In the EU, new clinical trial applications have gone through CTIS since 31 January 2023; the EU Clinical Trials Register in the table holds trials run under the earlier Directive. Registries change, so confirm current requirements with the registry before a submission.
How does TrialAssure help with registering in more than one registry?
REGISTRY keeps a trial’s registrations and results postings across 40+ registries on one record, with a rules engine that tracks each registry’s formats and deadlines. Your team approves each posting, and every submission is logged.
